فازت الكاتبة سما حسين مديرة و مؤسسة “مشروع ضد” بمنحة رونالد دنكان الثقافية ، و في إنجازٍ غير مسبوق، تم اختيارها كأول عربية وعراقية تحصل على المنحة بدورتها الاولى لعام 2025 و التي تنظمها جامعة إكستر البريطانية ـ قسم الأرشيف الخاص.
تُمنَح هذه المنحة لثلاثة كتّاب سنويًا، أحدهم فقط من خارج المملكة المتحدة ، وكانت سما هذا العام هي ذلك الصوت القادم من الشرق. تستمر فترة المنحة لمدة عامٍ كامل، تعمل خلالها سما على استكشاف ودراسة أرشيف جامعة إكستر الذي يضم مجموعات نادرة من المخطوطات والوثائق الأدبية والتاريخية والثقافية، من بينها أرشيف الكاتب البريطاني رونالد دنكان (1914–1982)، أحد أبرز كتّاب غرب إنجلترا في القرن العشرين، الذي عُرف بتجريبيته في الكتابة الأدبية متعددة الأشكال. تموَّل المنحة من مؤسسة رونالد دنكان الأدبية، بهدف إتاحة الفرصة أمام الكتّاب لاستلهام أعمال جديدة من الأرشيف ومواصلة إرث دنكان في الأدب التجريبي.
وجاء في إعلان جامعة إكستر عن فوز المشروع: “ستستخدم سما منحة رونالد دنكان لتطوير مشروع (البحث عن رونالد دنكان)، وهو مشروع يقدم حياة دنكان وأعماله إلى العربية من خلال سرد تأملي وتفاعلي، تصوغه انطلاقًا من أبحاثها في أرشيفه. وإلى جانب ذلك، تعتزم إنتاج فيلم وثائقي وسلسلة فيديوهات توثيقية لرحلتها من بغداد إلى جامعة إكستر، تُعرض على المنصات التفاعلية لـمشروع ضد، لتسليط الضوء على أهمية إتاحة أعمال دنكان وأرشيفات إكستر أمام القرّاء العرب والجمهور الشاب.”
سيُنتَج العمل عبر مشروع ضد بالتعاون مع مكتبات جامعة إكستر، ويضم مشروع المنحة محورين رئيسيين:
1. كتاب توثيقي جديد يستلهم تجربة دنكان ويعيد تقديمه إلى العربية.
2. فيلم وثائقي قصير يوثّق الرحلة البحثية والإبداعية بين بغداد وإكستر. مركزين فيه على قسم الارشيفات الخاصة
هذا الإنجاز يفتح صفحة جديدة في سجل مشروع ضد كمؤسسة ثقافية شبابية مستقلة تعيد تعريف العلاقة بين الأدب، الأرشيف، والصورة، وتؤكد حضور الكتّاب العرب في المشهد الثقافي العالمي.
و مما قالته سما “هذه المنحة ليست مجرد فرصة شخصية، بل جسر بين أرشيف بريطاني عريق وصوت عربي معاصر يسعى لإعادة صياغة الذاكرة الثقافية بلغة جديدة و اعطاء المشاريع الثقافية الشبابية الاهمية التي تستحقها .”

“sama Hussein from “Project Dhiid” Wins the 2025 Ronald Duncan Stipend from the University of Exeter “
In a groundbreaking achievement, Iraqi writer Sama Hussein , founder and director of Project Dhiid
has been selected as the first Arab and Iraqi recipient of the Ronald Duncan Stipend 2025, organized by the University of Exeter – Special Collections Department. The stipend is awarded annually to three writers, only one of whom is chosen from outside the United Kingdom. This year, Sama represents that voice from the East. The program runs for one year, during which Sama will explore and study the University of Exeter’s archives, which house rare collections of literary, historical, and cultural manuscripts, including the archive of British writer Ronald Duncan (1914–1982), one of the most significant literary figures of twentieth-century West England, known for his experimental approach to writing and multidisciplinary works.The stipend is funded by the Ronald Duncan Literary Foundation, aiming to offer writers an opportunity to create new works inspired by the archive and to continue Duncan’s legacy of literary experimentation.In its official announcement, the University of Exeter stated: “Sama will use the Ronald Duncan Stipend to develop her project ‘In Search of Ronald Duncan’, which introduces Duncan’s life and works to the Arabic-speaking world through a reflective and interactive narrative shaped by her research in his archive. Alongside this, she plans to produce a short documentary film and a video series documenting her journey from Baghdad to Exeter, to be published through the interactive platforms of Project Dhiid, highlighting the importance of making Duncan’s works and Exeter’s archives accessible to Arab readers and young audiences.”The project, produced through Project Dhiid in collaboration with the University of Exeter Libraries, will consist of two main components:
A 1. documentary book inspired by Duncan’s legacy, reintroducing his work to Arabic
A 2. short documentary film chronicling the creative and research journey between Baghdad and Exeter.
This milestone marks a new chapter for Project Dhiid as an independent youth-led cultural institution redefining the relationship between literature, archives, and visual storytelling, and affirming the presence of Arab writers within the global cultural landscape.
